Last summer, my exterminator
told me that he saw signs of termites in my home. I was shocked by this since I used this company for over 10
years to spray the house for ants and spiders. I paid for a full exam of the house which proved that
I had ground termites. In order to
get rid of the termites, I had a contractor come to my home and drill holes
into the foundation and cement so he could put termite poison into the termite
nests. This cost $3,000.
As a consumer advocate, I had to ask the exterminator what caused this so I could help my readers avoid this large expense. He gave me the following tips to reduce your chances of getting ground termites:
1) Do not leave any pieces of wood or cardboard on the
cement floor in the garage.
2) Do not keep any firewood near house
3) If a tree dies in your yard then pay to have the
entire tree and roots removed
4) Do not leave a lot of clutter in front of the walls
since termites like dark areas.
5) Recycle your newspapers and cardboard boxes frequently. This is termite candy.
As a consumer advocate, I am
always trying to save my readers money so they don’t have to incur any
unnecessary expenses.
